The Majesty of Cape Lookout

I know a place on the coast where the winds blow strong and the trees grow tall. The waves crash against the rocks and roar, never ceasing. It is a place of beauty and danger, a place where I feel a deep belonging. This place is Cape Lookout, a natural wonder of this amazing planet.

I’ve been coming here ever since I was the young, impressionable age of seven. The first time I saw the majestic waves rolling across the glassy sand, it was forever to be ingrained in my child mind. There isn’t a day when I don’t have a fleeting thought of my beautiful beach.

Then there is the Cape, which juts out into the ocean like a mountain into the sky. I’ve climbed to the top of that Cape many times, each time a new and exciting adventure. I reach the top and stare out over the vast blue blanket that is the Pacific Ocean. Birds cry as they fly overhead, and a below a lazy whale slowly rises to the surface to take a new, deep breath. I feel as at home here, at Cape Lookout, as that whale does in the ocean. I know I belong here.
