Fell in love with Oregon

I was a musician in Southern California. The band I was in of 7 years had just broken up and the lead guitarist left town, to where I did not know. Found out he and his girlfriend moved to Southern Oregon.

I took a week’s vacation and took the train to Klamath Falls and hoped to take a bus to Grants Pass (not knowing the size of Grants Pass) to try and find them. Turned out they were living on a mining claim (gold) deep in the woods. They had just borrowed a friend’s car to come down and check their mail and got my letter, the same day I arrived. They drove to Klamath Falls and found me in the bus station.

The minute I got on their claim, I fell in love with Oregon. Went back at the end of my week off and gave a month’s notice and moved back with them. I also mined for gold with them. We made enough money to buy new gear and form another band and I’m now in Portland working at Music Millennium (14 years). I love this state!!
