My Life On A Farm

I live in a small town, in Toledo, Oregon. The small town is a community of loggers and mill workers at Georgia Pacific. My family members are hunters. We like to fish for trout in the Siletz River, and the Big Elk, in Harlan.
We hay in the summer on dusty fields, in the hot sun, on my grandpa’s farm. We use bandanas to cover our faces. We buck the bails on the trailer. When we are done we drive off back to the farm to unload the hay into the barn.
Sometimes we go to the Big Elk to cool off. But, most often we come home to BBQ on the briquette grill. We cook steak, ribs and all kinds of finger-licking goodness. After we eat, we sit by the fire and burn wood that has been gathered from our property. We sit out for a long time talking and relaxing. Then we go back inside and go to sleep.
I feel like I have accomplished something on those days. I worked Oregon’s land with my muscles and body. I know it will all grow back next spring.
