Old Days

I sit here at my computer trying to write something about a place where my family has lived for 5 generations. There are over 15 members of our family buried in the Oswego Pioneer Cemetery. I can remember when Lake Oswego was just plain Oswego. All of the kids in town went to one grade school. We had no school bus service and the big kids went to Lincoln High. The new (now old) high school was built when I was in 7th grade and even the 7th and 8th graders got to attend there. We spent our summer days swimming in the lake at the city pool then went to the ice cream store and got cones for 5 cents. We would spend Saturday afternoons at the movies for a quarter watching a serial and lots of cartoons. What a great time it was to be young.

The town has changed along with the rest of the world but it is still home. We had our Lake Oswego High 50 year reunion this year. On February 14, 1959 I married my wonderful husband. It was the day that the state of Oregon was 100 years old. This year we are celebrating our 50 years together, along with the state of Oregon, and we have always lived right here close to where I grew up. We have visited every corner of this wonderful state and find each place we visit to be a grand new adventure.
