Great Four Boys–Proud of Oregon!
by Dr. Dapo Sobomehin
Portland, OR

I was always interested in sharing this story for good reason. Good reason. Oregon with its beauty–let us talk about it–especially as we celebrate the 150th birthday.
My four great boys grew up here–two were native born–in Portland, but I did everything in my power to make sure they enjoyed, and contributed to, the beauty of Oregon. I took them to all the great lakes, resorts–and every public parks I could think of. They had the best time of their lives in this great state. They had fun.
The best part was building a community around them. I made sure every family they met became part of their lives. This is why every one of my sons is known in the city. They went to the public schools where they all tried hard to make their marks. I encouraged and supported them to be kind and generous. I made sure they realized that wherever they found themselves–they belong there and must take care of the place.
These four boys are proud of Oregon. As we celebrate our 150th birthday–I must embolden every Oregonian with the African axiom that “It takes the whole village to raise a child.” Our children belong to us. We must be part of their lives.
