My Oregon

For 90 years, I’ve lived in Oregon and called it home. May 28, 1918 was the special day when I was born on south Sixth Street in Marshfield. My plan was to continue spending the rest of my life there but an unexpected operation caused me to change my address. I currently live in Ocean Ridge in Coos Bay and I remain loyal to our lovely state.
Why do I love Oregon? It meets all of my needs. I’m a lover of beauty. Ocean scenery has a special appeal with all her many moods—storming, sunny days, calm, and wild. She is second to none. She dresses like a beautiful queen in all her splendor.
The azure blue of our Pacific Ocean with its many birds—pelicans, sand pipers and various gulls—provide a crown for this queen of states.
As you walk bare footed on the beach admiring the sculptured cliffs made by the pounding, restless waves of the sea, all of your problems seem less important. Like sand sifting through your hands, problems will get lost as the day passes.
The area gets darker. The brilliant red and gold streaks the sky. All of the rainbows colors are in a beautiful sunset. The sky makes a display like a piece of heaven. God is good to Oregon.
The sunset continues to changed until the glory of the sky slips behind the horizon beyond the sea. The afterglow continues until darkness melts it away.
Oregon has been blessed with everything good. The sea is my Oregon. My roots go deep and I’m glad that my family chose this place as home. I hope to make it to the century mark in my Oregon.
